Tree Seeds

Mellowed yellows

Time for summery colours and flavours

So our formerly veggie-free roof terrace is now home to three stray tomato plants. Strange really, as my over-excitement over growing tomato seed started our allotment addiction. Used to worry at work about the baby seedlings out in the cold and wet, like abandoned kittens, so was completely ill-equipped to deal with their decimation by blight.

Have planted the other tomatoes (Jane Scotter‘s Oli Rose) on the plot next to Dave Christensen’s exquisite Painted Mountain corn (out of Mads McKever’s Brown Envelope Seeds in Ireland). This small recently reclaimed ‘hot’ area will also house Rose and Nancy’s Teddybear sunflowers and peppers (Hungarian black and yellow wax).

Becoming a bit obsessed by yellow this year, the hypericum is covered in perfect flower, the echinacea and rudbeckia are climbing quickly and our front windowboxes, usually a traditional riot of ivy geraniums, are happily homing yellow tagetes and daisies.

The only things missing are the replacements for the lost dahlias, still haven’t come across any I love near as much. Hoping to pick up hints at Chelsea. But what colours, fruit or flowers are you obsessing about at the moment?

Been pining all week for an early bowl of our broad beans, simply steamed I think with fish? Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
