The overall appearance, ambience and appeal of your outdoor space can be easily uplifted to a great extent by installing a wall fountain in your garden or patio. The outdoor wall fountains were an essential component of olden day town planning especially in the courtyards of ancient Greece and Roman people as a means of providing water for drinking and cooking purposes.
Nowadays, the intended use of these wall fountains are not for the same old purposes but is mainly to give a soothing and relaxing effect apart from adding a significant decorative touch to the whole ambience.
A wall fountain can be designed in such a way as to make it look a natural part of the landscape. The wall fountains function in the same way as any other fountain, where there is a holding basin to hold the water which is then circulated by means of a pump and flows through the water spouts in the fountainhead.
There are different designs and methods in which the water flows from the fountainhead onto the basin. In some designs the water directly falls onto the basin from the fountainhead while in many others it trickles down to the pool through various steps or ledgers or shelves placed in different angles and heights between the fountain head and the basin or water pool.
There are lot of retailers who specialize in accessories and fixtures meant for fountains. These retailers sell masks of different sizes and in different shapes which are generally used to conceal the plumbing of the fountain. It would be a great idea to choose one such mask from these retailers to suit the overall theme and look of the landscaped garden and the wall or garden fountain and to install them accordingly.
Similarly the surface over which the water pours can be of different shapes, sizes and materials too. The easiest way is to use a glass pane as the surface over which the water pours. Alternatively you can use various other materials to compliment the setting and make it look more natural.
Irrespective of what you choose to go as a fountainhead, the elements of a wall fountain remain the same. You still need to have a pool or basin in which the water pours and is collected for reuse. There needs to be a submersible pump which is installed in the pool or basin and connected by means of a tube onto the fountain head.
Concealing the tubing and the pump need to be done in such a way that it is easy to remove them and repair in case of some malfunctioning. You also need to have electricity for the submersible pump to work. The electrical connection will also take care of lighting if there is any required to let you enjoy the beautiful sight of a waterfall post the evenings.
