Tree Fumigation

There are different ways how to take care of your shrubs and trees. You must nourish them by all means necessary in order for the plant to have a healthy growth. However, even if you put a lot of effort in giving your trees all its essentials, there are times that you may require the help of chemicals and professionals so that it could be protected from harmful environmental factors such as pests. For this kind of dilemma, the only thing that you can do is to fumigate the tree.

Fumigation is a process of controlling pests. It uses chemicals that are harmful to humans but safe for the plants. The chemicals that they use are called fumigants or pesticides. Once the fumigants are released, it would suffocate all the pests that are causing damages to your tree. This can be done in all kinds of plants even in the fruit-bearing trees like apples, oranges, cherries, mangoes, and alike. There are even some fumigants that can be used on the soil where the tree is planted as well.

However, before the fumigation process would start, preparation must be done particularly by the humans living nearby. Here are the things that you should do before fumigating your tree.

1. Everyone in the house or living in the area where the fumigation would take place must leave the location including pets. Fumigants are harmful when inhaled by anyone or anything that is breathing.
2. Ask the fumigator about the special bags where you could seal your medicines and foods.
3. The surrounding area of the tree must be heavily watered. This is usually done by the fumigators so that the soil will not be affected by the chemicals. Moreover, this is also done in order to prevent the other plants from being fumigated as well.

And since the chemicals that will be used in the process are dangerous to the health of those who will inhale it, fumigators wear special suits that would protect them from the harmful effects of the fumigants. Aside from that, it is also necessary that the area that will be fumigated must be secured in a tent so that the chemicals would not be released in the air. This is called tent fumigation or tenting. This would hold the pesticides to prevent it from spreading in the air.

The amount of the chemicals will depend on the area that is being fumigated. This depends on how big the tree is, the space that has to be covered, the temperature during the fumigation process, and how susceptible the pests are. More often than not, if fumigants are used in a small area, like your backyard, it would only require at least 16 ounces to 18 ounces of chemicals for every 1000 cubic foot. The stronger and more chemicals used in the fumigation process, the longer would be its fumigation time. Usually, when a strong chemical is used in the area it would take 16 hours or more before the area becomes safe for humans as well as your pets.
